Reports: Shots Fired Inside Bush Intercontinental Airport Terminal

Update: Reuters is also reporting the unnamed susepct is dead. 

Original post (2:33 p.m.): A terminal at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport is closed, after a man allegedly fired a gun in ticketing area before shooting himself.

The San Antonio Express-News cites a Houston Police Department statement “that an armed male suffered at least one gunshot wound at 1:35 p.m. Thursday near a ticket counter in the pre-screening area of Terminal B.”

Texas Sailor Buried – Decades After Being Killed in Vietnam

A Texas sailor will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery today – almost 46 years after he was killed in Vietnam.

Aviation Antisubmarine Warfare Technician William B. Jackson of Stockdale – near San Antonio – died in a helicopter crash with three other servicemen in 1967. The Department of Defense says the men were on a rescue mission looking for a downed pilot when their helicopter was shot down.

DPS Official: State Doesn't Enforce Safety Regs at Plants

Two weeks ago, a fire ignited at a fertilizer plant in the small Central Texas town of West, and 20 minutes later, a massive explosion killed 15 people. More than 200 were injured and nearly 150 homes destroyed.

Thursday, Texas lawmakers questioned state agencies that had oversight over the plant, but they didn’t get many answers.

Rolling Blackouts Unlikely This Summer, ERCOT Says

Rolling blackouts are unlikely this summer, according to the state’s grid regulator, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which released its outlook (PDF) for the adequacy of the power grid for the summer months.

“If we do have a much hotter than normal summer, one like 2011, or if we have much higher than normal generator outages, we could be into our emergency procedures this summer,” said Kent Saathoff, executive advisor at ERCOT.

U.S. Senate to Probe West Fertilizer Plant Explosion

The United States Senate will hold a hearing into the fertilizer plant explosion in the town of West, U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-California) announced Monday. Sen. Boxer chairs the Environment and Public Works Committee.

“I cannot rest until we get to the bottom of what caused the disaster in West, Texas and the tragic loss of life," Sen. Boxer said in a statement. "We must ensure that facilities like the one in West are complying with chemical safety laws. We will look at how the laws on the books are being enforced and whether there is a need to strengthen them."
