Legendary Rangers Catcher Ivan Rodriguez Will Retire After a 23-Year Career

Next Monday, Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez, considered one of Major League Baseball's greatest catchers, will announce his retirement.

The news was first reported by the AP and confirmed today by the Texas Rangers, the team where Rodriguez made his debut.

Rodriguez, a 14-time All-Star, won a record 13 Gold Golves. The AP reports:

The Texas Rangers lost to the St. Louis Cardinals, 10-9 in 11 inning last night. The two are now tied in the World Series, 3-3. That forces a Game 7 of the World Series tonight in St. Louis. This is the first time in nine years that a World Series has gone gone to a seventh and deciding game.

Mundane Mixup Helps Rangers Take 3-2 Lead In World Series

If anyone asks you why the Texas Rangers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 last night to take a 3-2 lead in the World Series, tell them it was a missed call.

But it wasn't, as NPR's Mike Pesca said on Morning Edition, a mistake made by an umpire.

Texas Rangers Hosts Open Tryouts in Round Rock

It's every baseball player's dream: To be picked from the crowd at an open tryout at your hometown ball park to play for your favorite Major League team.

Scouts for the defending American League Champion Texas Rangers did just that Wednesday morning, holding  open tryouts for all positions at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Not surprisingly, many came out for a chance to show their talents to professional baseball scouts. The Horton family came from Crawford, Texas for the opportunity.

Nolan Ryan Hospitalized for Chest Pain

Nolan Ryan, the CEO and club president of the Texas Rangers, was hospitalized in Houston after experiencing discomfort in his chest yesterday morning at his home in Georgetown, according to a press release on the team's website.

Ryan is also part owner of the Round Rock Express. The 64-year-old received a double-bypass surgery in 2000.

He is currently undergoing tests for his reoccurring heart condition and  is expected to be released from the hospital sometime this week.

Top Texas Ranger To Retire

The first Hispanic to lead the Texas Rangers is retiring at the end of this month. 47-year-old Antonio “Tony” Leal is leaving to work in the private sector. He was appointed as Chief Texas Ranger in 2008.
