New Armstrong Lawsuit: Dallas Company Wants Prize Money Back

Dallas-based sports insurance and promotion company SCA Promotions is suing former cyclist Lance Armstrong for more than $12 million.

The damages, the company says, are for prize money paid to Armstrong for his 2002, 2003 and 2004 Tour de France wins, and for legal costs accrued during a previous lawsuit.

Eleven Recruits Commit to UT Football

Today was college football’s nationwide signing day. All 11 expected Longhorn recruits signed letters of intent to play at UT, Coach Mack Brown said at an afternoon news conference. Those players, along with four who enrolled midyear, make up this year’s recruiting class of 15 new players.

Why Texas Might Limit Full-Contact Football Practice

With all  the talk of football player safety at the professional level, it's not surprising that some Texas lawmakers are talking about requiring more precautions for younger athletes.

Texas currently allows 30 days of full-contact practice for high school and middle school athletes, but this could soon change.

When Will UT Football Rally?

The University of Texas Football team had a string of bad news over the weekend. The big news was the revelation that offensive coordinator Major Applewhite had a sexual relationship with a student a few years back.

Then one of the team’s players was arrested for public intoxication. Minor in comparison: a high school football star Texas had been recruiting announced he would not be coming to the 40 acres. But these are just the latest disappointing moments for a proud program on hard times.

Even if you’re not a Longhorn fan, you’re bound to have heard of the team’s recent problems on and off the field. Because if you live in Austin, you’ve got at least one friend that cares passionately about the topic and hasn’t been shy about expressing their feelings on the subject.

UT Advertising Profs to Critique Superbowl Ads

Are you watching the Superbowl just for the ads? You're not the only one.

Four University of Texas advertising professors will live-tweet critiques of the advertisements during the Superbowl game featuring the Baltimore Ravens and the 49ers this Sunday. The will use the hash-tag “SBAdJudge”. UT advertising professor Neal Burns, one of the four professors critiquing this weekend, said he is looking forward to it.
