Ray Harryhausen, Master Of Stop-Motion Animation, Dies at 92

Ray Harryhausen, who brought sword-fighting skeletons to the 1963 movie Jason and the Argonauts and was known as the master of stop-motion animation for his work on that and other films such as Clash of the Titans and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, has died.

Cine Las Americas Film Fest Readies 16th Year In Austin

The film world is changing. That’s according to the principals behind the 16th annual Cine Las Americas International Film Festival, running April 16-21 here in Austin, Texas.

With more films coming out of Latin America and indigenous America, Austin audiences will have a range of films to choose from this year. Cine Las Americas includes features and shorts, documentaries and narratives, and works from emerging talents. All the films are subtitled in English.

With 295,000 views and counting on video site Vimeo, the popularity of the video “2012. 366 days. 366 seconds.” isn’t slowing down.

Made by Austin filmmaker Jonathan Britnell, the video captures moments around Austin and in Britnell’s life. Each day of the 2012 leap year gets one second, making the video 366 seconds long. 

“The main reason I decided to do it was just to try to be more creative, just to try to do something creative everyday,” Britnell says.

The seventh-annual Fun Fun Fun Fest came to a conclusion last night.

In its second year at Auditorium Shores, the underground music festival drew roughly 15,000 people a day, according to co-founder James Moody. The fest also received some unexpected mainstream coverage from outlets like “Good Morning America,” which reported on the fest’s Taco Cannon loaded with grub from Torchy’s Tacos. But as Moody told KUT News this weekend, “It’s growing, but it’ll never do well as a very big festival.”
