One of the dogs at this clinic is Frida. She is blonde, tall and beautiful. But, according to her doctor’s report delivered by Mr. John, Frida has some weight problems.

The Lead: Anderson Inquiry Ends, Texas SEAL Chris Kyle Eulogized

Good morning. The National Weather Service says Austin can expect continued chances for rain and highs in the 60s today.

Lead Story: Former Williamson County district attorney Ken Anderson has denied any misconduct in the case of Michael Morton, the man who was wrongfully convicted of his wife’s murder and spent 25 years in prison.

Anderson, now a judge in Georgetown, is facing allegations that as a prosecutor he hid evidence that would have proved Morton’s innocence.

What's In a Name? AISD Facility Naming Deadline Tomorrow

The Austin school board is taking recommendations for the names of a bus stop and new elementary school.

The deadline for naming two Austin school facilities is Feb. 8. And while “Southeast Bus Terminal” and “North Central Elementary School #1” aren’t without their charms, AISD hopes Austin can do better.

The AISD Board of Trustees began taking suggestions for the names of both a bus stop and a new elementary school in mid-January. The achool board will then decide on names during its March meeting and announce its selection March 19.

AISD Transfer Deadline Today

Today is the deadline to apply for priority school transfers in the Austin Independent School District for next school year.

Non-priority transfers to be considered during the first-round lottery selection are also due today. All applications need to be delivered in person to the Office of Student Services at the Carruth Administration Center by 5 p.m. or postmarked by today’s date.

Applications that aren't received by today will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis when space is available at the desired school. All transfer requests for the fall of 2014 must be received by Aug. 12.

AISD STAAR Passing Rate Higher/Lower Than Statewide

Austin elementary school students performed strongly in the new State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exams. Middle schoolers didn't do quite as well.

Overall, the AISD passing rates for the STAAR—the standardized test that replaces the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS)—ranged from 82 percent in third and fourth grade reading to 58 percent in eighth grade social studies. Passing rates for most tests topped 70 percent.

Weigh-In Tonight on AISD's $900M Bond Proposal

The Austin Independent School District is inviting the public to weigh-in this evening on a potential bond package.

The nearly $900 million bond proposal could go before voters as soon as May. Among other things, it proposes adding four new elementary schools to address overcrowding.
