AM Update: Investigating Unsolved Murders, Cap Metro Route Changes, UT Men's Golf Wins NCAA
Unsolved Murders to get Another Look?
The commission’s vice chair says the city needs to spend money on external reviews for some unsolved crimes because Austin Police Department detectives know too much about the cases and aren’t able to be as open-minded about possible solutions
Dr. Kim Rossmo says the Yogurt Shop Murders should be the first case considered for an external review. In 1991, the bodies of four teenage girls were discovered after a fire in a yogurt shop. Convictions in the crime were overturned.
If the commission approves the resolution today, it will go on to the Austin City Council for further consideration.
The Public Safety Commission will also hear a resolution on wildland fire risk – including a recommendation for adding another Austin Fire Department station on the Loop 360 corridor and increasing training for firefighters.
Is Your Commute Affected by Cap Metro Schedule Changes?
Cap Metro is eliminating some bus trips while AISD is out of session and reducing UT shuttle service during the summer.
Meanwhile, the MetroRail is now running additional trips. Two morning and afternoon round trips have been added.
Cap Metro will adjust bus and rail schedules again in August.
UT Men’s Golf Putts to Championship
The UT-Austin Men’s Golf team is celebrating a national championship. The team won the NCAA tournament yesterday for the first time since the 1970s – beating Alabama.
Five Longhorns went head-to-head with five members of the Crimson Tide. UT clinched the championship 3-2. A 30-foot putt on the 18th green by UT senior Dylan Frittelli sealed the win.
This is UT’s first national championship in any sport in more than two years.
